To engage is to participate and to be involved. Nowhere in the Scriptures do we read about disciples who sat and did nothing. Disciples, like Jesus, must engage!
To engage upward is to engage in praise and prayer. At CHBC we believe in biblical worship and we praise Jesus because we believe He is worthy of all of our praise. We praise with music, giving, and spoken word. We praise demonstratively by clapping our hands, lifting our hands, and singing and shouting. We also pray because prayer holds the key to the power we have as Christians. Weekly in our gatherings we set aside time for prayer.
To engage inward is to engage in discipleship and service. At CHBC we want all of our family to be involved in being disciples and also to be discipling others. Part of our Sunday morning worship includes an hour of Bible Fellowship, which are groups that allow you to connect relationally and also study the bible with a small group. Our Sunday nights consist of disciple groups called “Equip.” These groups are designed to help you grow in different areas such as parenting, financial, theology, women’s studies, and other areas to help you grow spiritually. Another part of engaging inward is through service and we believe disciples are servers! Our family loves to serve each other as well as to hold the door open for others to come inside and taste and see what we know to be true (JESUS).
Finally, to engage outward is to engage in evangelism and missions. Our command from Jesus is to take the good news and be the salt and light to the world. We engage our city and world by walking the streets around our church, serving our city and partnering with local organizations, participating in city evangelism trips, and taking short term missions trips to Africa, Haiti, and Central America.
